Snow in Kashmir

The cold winds that blow here in Delhi these days prompt me to reminisce a snowfall in Kashmir which has its own special charm. It transforms the Paradise on Earth to a fairyland when a sheet of snow covers everything and the leafless bare trees fall into a full fresh white bloom. A thick white blanket of snow covers everything and the best scene is witnessed when after a fresh snowfall the sun shows its bright face through a break in the dark clouds. The bright sunrays turn brighter with the bright reflection on the fresh white snow and the whole valley is covered with a bright silver cloak, a scene worthy to be described by only poets as the valley itself is changed into a poem. Snow in Kashmir does what a rose does in a garden of flowers which when blows takes the whole attention of a visitor as if it exists alone.

  2. This is my life’s first opportunity to read someone’s Blog and here I am reading DAD’s postings. I am so happy and thrilled. We love you all.
The above post immediately triggered me off, down my memory lane, and those beautiful and cherished memories of my childhood when we used to see the whole town under a white blanket, shimmering with early morning Sunrays. It reminds me of the SNOW MAN we used to make in our backyard earmarking its nose by a red - chilly and the eyes by black coal and over that our flushed red faces due to chill and frozen hands.

  3. Rahul,
I'm proud of you, my son. Your comment has renewed the pain of our displacement from the paradise on the Earth. The purpose of writing on various aspects of our lost Kashmir here is to help you, the future generation, to keep the memories of our rich cultural heritage alive as we hope fervently that the day is not far when we return to our beloved Kashmir. I want you continue reading the posts that I'm trying to post almost daily and also whenever you get time put a small comment as a mark of respect to our lost Kashmir.

  4. After going through the above post on Snow & Rahul's childhood reminisce, I am trying to figure out the difference in contents of post & Rahul's nostalgic moment. One can travel to any hill station covered with snow to experience the sunshine & golden rays, and poets can write endless and enchanting poetries. But people who have luckily been born at such a place and have spent their childhood time unknowingly with real nature all around, cherish the memories once life turns off again unknowingly in frenzy into a machine full of Orkuts & Youtubes without an iota of nature around. At least we are blessed than lucky of having experienced creation of snow mans, chewing of coldest icicles, having kilometer long strolls on fresh and heavy snow after a sunshine with only and only snow wherever sight reaches. My God, endless pages and blogs can be created by each Kashmiri on this beautiful topic – Snow in Kashmir!
